A LIFE-THREATENING STORM IS THE PERFECT BACKDROP
FOR A SERIAL KILLER LOOKING TO PLAY
A pulse-pounding, edge of your seat mystery by best selling author and criminologist R.D. Brady.
Ten years ago, Simone Granger was killed in the sleepy little town of Millners Kill. Steve Kane, then sixteen, was quickly arrested and convicted. But Steve knows he's innocent. Someone else took the life of his best friend's sister.
Now Steve is on parole, and he is forced to return to the town that hates him. Steve would rather be anywhere than Millners Kill, but at least in his hometown, he's got his grandmother, his brother, and State Police Investigator Declan Reed on his side. And Steve intends to make no waves. He just wants to get his life back.
But someone else has different plans.
As the storm of the century hits Millners Kill, the bodies begin to pile up, and Steve is the only suspect. A town is losing its grip, and all their rage is focused on one man.
And that rage is about to boil over.
Fans of James Patterson, L.T. Vargus, Rachel Caine, T.R. Ragan, Scott Platt, and David Balducci will love Runs Deep.

I never guesses who did it, and I'm an author who knows how it's done and how other authors hide who did it. If the author can fool me, they will fool you, too. A really enjoyable, exciting read. You'll really like and enjoy this read.
I sure am glad my wife, who was reading it, turned me on to it with her personal recommendation.
Excellent story! It was hard to put down from the beginning. Great story line, real life characters, will keep you turning the page, excitedly wanting to get to the bottom of the mystery. You won't see it coming!
Loved it!
As a teen, Steve Cane is convicted for the murder of his best friend, Julie's, sister. After serving ten years, he returns to his island home just as a major storm approaches. The bridge to the island is seriously at risk and therefore closed. Upon Steve's arrival, bodies begin to pile up and most everyone thinks he is to blame. State policeman, Declan, who never believed that Steve was guilty of murder, continues to fight on his behalf. Closed off from the mainland, people are frightened and beginning to lose control. Who is behind the murders? I never guessed!
Fine crime book about an ex-con falsely imprisoned of murder a decade ago returning to his home town once released at the same time another murder occurs. Plot was intriguing from the aspect that with only limited access to the island because of a massive flood, both protagonist and serial killer were trapped there together which left Steve battling both the killer's intentions and hometown prejudice to prove his innocence where he had once failed before. Strong on plot and how characters interacted I found this book a great way to be introduced to the author's works and am looking forward to reading "The Belial Series, Books 1-3" next!
I really liked the Belial series so thought to give this a try. It was a great departure from the science fiction/fantasy and I really like the science of the writing. if I could say one thing that could have been improved was the protagonist - 2/3 way through I knew who 'done it'. It follows a pattern of other novels in the past - guess I read too much!
About a third of the way through, I was pretty sure who the antagonist was, and I was right. I like it the other way around...I like to be on the edge of my seat, eager and anxious to finish a great book because I'll have no idea who the antagonist is. If you read carefully, there are a few minor clues that rule out others. This book let me down on many levels.
Now for the characters. The Sheriff is a huge jerk, so (a) how did he get re-elected so many times and (b) why wasn't he relieved of his badge for his willingness to violate police procedure? Why was Declan such a cheerleader for Steve? There was no explanation; he just was. It was great for Steve, but it seemed unreasonable. Julie is training to be a doctor. Doctors are usually very smart and have a great deal of common sense. So it made no sense that she got her car stuck in the flood, and then broke into a cabin to get warm and dry, which cabin just happened to be owned by the antagonist. And the big question? How was Steve found guilty of murder (when he was 16; that's the opening to the book) on what seems like circumstantial evidence, and no appeal? In my opinion, the story would have read better if all appeals were exhausted. But then that would mean all judges who reviewed Steve's case were incompetent. No win situation.
I'm happy I paid only a couple of bucks for this book. Not money wasted, because I did finish it. I just wasn't enamored by it.
Runs Deep is a absolute page turner from page one. I started reading and couldn't put it down until the last page. This excellent read will keep you on the edge of your seat right until the end.
Innocent boy, police brutality, small town mob mentality and killings. Compelling read that is easy to follow. Believable characters with realistic dialogue.
Circumstantial evidence convicted 16 year old Steve Kane of 2nd Degree murder of his friend Simone Granger. Returning to his home town after serving his time, people in the town are being murdered.
The sheriff's career was made by convicting Steve. He continues to keep the town stirred up about Steve. When other murders occur he blames Steve. Two murders occurred which Steve has alibi's for. One happened whole he was in full view of a group of people, another occurred while has in jail.
Steve knows the killings are tied to him and tries to figure out who hates him. Several characters could be it.
Fact
"And now that Steve was older, he knew that just because you were right didn’t mean the world was going to treat you fairly."
Not a cliff-hanger, just an ending without an epilogue. What happened with the trial of the killer, was the sheriff fired for gross incompetence and brutality, the town finding out they were wrong, the Granger family apologizing to Steve and how he moves on in life. Also, was the body of Steve's father found?
No desire to re-read this story. I am interested in other works by this author.
