I took a chance with my first Lauren Royal Chase Family story with book 1 and now just buy the next as I finish reading the previous one. They are all delightful. The characters stay true to themselves, so even though I became a little irritated with Kendra's impetuous reaction to situations at times, I had to accept that she stayed true to her nature which was in fact quite endearing. The pace of Amber was pleasing, the touch of (by now to me) well known other characters in the family was pleasant, and the introduction of new members a surprising twist. Intriguing secrets just added interest to the developing relationship between the main protagonists, leading to a rather shocking event which had me on the edge of my seat!Product details

I could not put this book down. Yes, it's that good. It flows into the next page and the next and I couldn't wait to see the "happily ever after" ending. It's full of passionate romance (lots and lots of kisses), intrigue, adventure and suspense. Lauren Royal is a wonderful author. Her description of the scenes, the building structures and the history was a big bonus for me not knowing much about England. Thank you Ms. Royal.
I thought that this was honestly one of the author's better books. Again I loved her attention to historical detail and I found the intricate storyline fascinating. I adored the H, he was a combination of everything I love in a romantic hero but he wasn't perfect either, which gave him a believable edge.
The reason I deducted a star is because at times the h was very annoying and insecure. She dashed off to follow the H at the drop of a hat and for me that stretched credibility, and got her into trouble more times than not. It seemed out of place for the times.
Amber just might be my favorite book of the Chase Family series. I loved them all but this one took turns in the plot that I wasn't expecting. I love the historical elements Royal weaves into her stories. Trick's character was perfectly developed and very believable. It's fun to get Kendra's story after all her appearances in the other books.
Lauren Royal has surpassed all of my expectations with Amber. Her books are always entertaining but I think this is the best so far, and that is saying a lot. Her books are all on the top of my list, but this is now number one. Fantastic, believable characters, riveting plot, onderful bad guys, great history; enjoyment in every word! Iighly recommend to anyone who enjoys historical romances.
Although I read reviews all the time, I never write them; however this book was so good it drove me to write a quick review. The Chases are surely a funny lot and although Amethyst and Emerald were also comical, Amber had me laughing like a crazy person from the second chapter. The chemistry Lauren Royal was able to capture between Trick and Kendra is formidable. I have read the Chase series in no particular order (including the Regency Series) and I am quite sad I waited this long to read Amber, this book was very entertaining and satisfying. I give it 4 stars for the only reason that I did flip through some pages(like 5pages, but still) because the story was dragging and I, like Kendra, needed to know what was going to happen. Lots of turns, twists, surprises, love scenes and suspense. Highly recommend it.
This book is the fourth in a series, but can be a stand-alone book easily, and I read it as such. Without reviewing what has been reviewed already, I add that if you like historical romances, especially Scottish or English, then I recommend it highly. Engaging dialogue, some humor, a budding romance in spite of the situation and well-detailed setting/time/place enlivened what could have been a standard love plot. Some light sexuality did not cheapen the novel (actually made sense with the situation) and I appreciated the lack of involved, gratuitous sexual scenes. Appealing primary and secondary characters flavored the story. I had to push past my minor irritation at the headstrong, poorly thought out actions of the female lead at times, but did not ruin my overall enjoyment.
I chose this book because I love historical romance and this was definitely not a disappointment! Lauren Royal is a great writer who (in my opinion) doesn't complicate things with so many different hurdles or problems to solve. I enjoyed the family dynamic, the chemistry, and the common theme of love. I also enjoy the adventure, how I can picture the scenery to the point where I can almost hear and smell everything as though I'm there. What a writer! I must say, I also like the history at the end of every novel. Some of the places or things I wonder about while I'm reading the story are answered by her at the end. How thoughtful!
